Bear’s Head Rafters
When we were commissioned to build a home for this client, we asked her if there was an animal or form that felt close to her, that we could use as a theme for the rafter tails. Her reply was “bears”, which had recently appeared in her dreams.
These carved bear’s head rafters support an already distinctive roofline, adding a special character to the house & the land it sits on. The four outermost bears span the entire 22’ length of the gable ends. The fourteen intermediate bears are shorter – about 9’ each – and are sandwiched between the ends of engineered rafter trusses.
